3) The 9 habits of satisfying and successful relationships

When things happen that we don’t like, how we communicate is determined largely by our biology. Our brain and nervous system were designed, first and foremost, to keep us safe in the face of physical threats. Unfortunately, their automatic reactions (fight, flight or freeze) don’t work well in the complex modern world of human relationships.

Therefore, in order to make use of the first two sets of skills (“how to heal from difficult interactions with other people or yourself”, and “how to talk about what you want and make decisions with other people”), we need new, conscious communication habits in 9 key situations. Examples of situations include when you start to speak, when someone else speaks and you don’t agree, and when you want someone else to change their behaviour.

During the sessions in this course you’ll learn

  • What the 9 habits are,
  • How to use the skills from the first two courses in each habit, and
  • You’ll also have time to experiment to find what truly works for you in terms of how to incorporate the habits into your unique life situation.

If you worked with me years ago, this material will be new for you. The importance of these habits, and how to support people in developing them, is something that has become clear to me over the past 3-5 years.

One-on-one or Joint Sessions

Up until now, the only way to get access to this material was through one-on-one or joint sessions with me. This continues to be the most powerful way to build these new habits, especially if you have a relationship in your life that you’re really not enjoying. Or if you’ve tried to incorporate NVC into your life, but you’re not getting the kind of results you want.

New! Group Course — Via Zoom

Offered once in 2023-2024

  • April 16 – May 27, 6 two-hour sessions, 7-9 pm Tuesdays
  • Note: If you’re not available on Tuesdays, I’m open to running another group on a different day, as long as we have enough people in each group
  • $297 (+ HST/GST, if applicable)

    • Handouts that outline the what, why and how of each habit
    • Recordings of each Zoom session so you can review the material as often as you wish.
      For the group course, the recordings will include what I share during each session, and each participant will get to choose whether anything they share is included in the recording – or not.
    • Check-ins about how it is going in building these new habits and any challenges you are encountering. I’ll use this information to customize the content during our sessions together.
    • Optional Reminders — If you wish, periodic email reminders about the habits after the course.
